Auld Jock is a shepherd who falls on hard times when he loses his farm job. He moves to Edinburgh in search of work but tragically he descends into a life of poverty. His only companion is the plucky little Skye terrier Bobby who belonged to the farmer who dismissed Jock. The two are inseparable and when the farmer tries to take him back to the farm Bobby escapes and finds his way back to town and to Jock. Eventually, Auld Jock, old and ill, passes away and is buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard. For the next fourteen years Bobby guards his master’s grave.
